MTB, gravel or e-bike? Choosing the right bike for your Camino
If you are cycling the full Camino Francés and you are in average shape (not training weekly), the hardtail MTB is the safe choice.
Hardtail MTB
It handles any surface — dirt tracks across the Meseta plateau and the technical descents off O Cebreiro. Our hardtails: Massi Casta and Massi Team.

Lighter and faster on tarmac and smooth tracks, but it demands a bit more technical skill. Our gravel bikes: MMR X-Grip and, with pedal assist, Yamaha Wabash.

The smart pick if you are cycling the Camino in 6 days, if you want to reach León fresh without struggling on the Cruz de Ferro climb (1,502 m / 4,928 ft), or if your group has pilgrims of mixed fitness levels. Our e-bikes: Moustache, MMR Koen and Yamaha Crosscore.

Where and when to pick up the bike for the Camino
Book at least 2-3 weeks in advance in high season (May to September). Pickup and drop-off are scheduled at the date you choose when booking, at your accommodation or a partner point confirmed in advance; the most common combo is pickup in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (km 0 of the Camino Francés) and drop-off in Santiago de Compostela. We also cover Sarria-Santiago (the last 115 km by bike across the 14 stages), the full Camino in 14 days, and the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon, Porto or Tui. The bike is handed over prepared with the consumables needed for your trip, and you adjust it to your measure. You ride it for as long as you need, and you can return it at our centre in Santiago at no cost.
For more on physical preparation and the Pilgrim’s Office once you arrive in Santiago, check our Pilgrim Guide for the Camino by bike.
FAQs about bike rental for the Camino de Santiago
How much does it cost to rent a bike for the Camino de Santiago?
For a typical 6-7 day Camino, the 2027 price per day goes from €22/day for MTBs to €52/day for the full-suspension e-bike; a gravel bike costs €267.75 for 7 days (€38.25/day). Prices are for one bike, VAT included, excluding transport and extras, and the daily price drops the longer your trip. See every model on our 2027 prices page and get the exact price for your dates and route on our booking page.
Do I need to leave a deposit?
No. Tournride does not ask for a deposit or a credit-card hold. Payment is made in advance, according to the schedule set out in our terms of service.
What does Tournride Full Assistance (TFA) cover?
Tournride Full Assistance (TFA) is available for help on the road during business hours if your bike breaks down during your Camino. It costs €34.95 per bike and is free on bookings made up to 31 December 2026. Find the details on the TFA page.
Where do you deliver the bikes along the Camino?
We deliver to your accommodation or to a partner point in Spain, Portugal and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, always confirmed in advance by Tournride. Many pilgrims start in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Sarria, Lisbon, Porto or Tui and finish in Santiago de Compostela: tell us your route and dates when you book and we confirm the delivery point.
Can I change the pickup location after booking?
Yes, by email, up to 10 days before your rental starts. Transport depends on the delivery point, so the price may change. After that it depends on availability but we do our best to accommodate changes.
Do the bikes come with a rack for panniers?
Yes, with two exceptions: the full-suspension bikes (Moustache Trail 150.6 and Corratec e-Power RS160) have no rack, and we advise on luggage transfer for your route; and the BH UltimateRC, whose frame geometry does not allow it, takes an optional Topeak rack. If you do not have panniers we rent them out or recommend a model based on your trip length.
What if I'm new to road or MTB cycling?
The Camino Francés is accessible: 70% dirt tracks, 30% tarmac. If you have no technical experience we recommend the Massi Casta (the balanced choice of our range) or, if you prefer pedal assist, the Moustache X Road 4 (a touring e-bike with rack and mudguards included).
