MTB, gravel or e-bike? Choosing the right bike for your Camino
If you are cycling the full Camino Francés and you are in average shape (not training weekly), the hardtail MTB (BH Expert or MMR Zen) is the safe choice: it handles any surface — dirt tracks across the Meseta plateau and the technical descents off O Cebreiro. The gravel bike (BH GravelX or Yamaha Wabash) is lighter and rolls faster on tarmac and smooth tracks but demands a bit more technical skill. The e-bike (MMR Koen, Yamaha Crosscore, BH AtomE) is the smart pick if you are cycling the Camino in 6 days, if you want to reach León fresh without struggling on the Cruz de Ferro climb (1,502 m / 4,928 ft), or if your group has pilgrims of mixed fitness levels.
Where and when to pick up the bike for the Camino
Book at least 2-3 weeks in advance in high season (May to September). Pickup and drop-off are scheduled at the location and date you choose when booking; the most common combo is pickup in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (km 0 of the Camino Francés) and drop-off in Santiago de Compostela. We also cover Sarria-Santiago (the last 115 km by bike across the 14 stages), the full Camino in 14 days, and the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon, Porto or Tui. If you collect in Santiago, we fit the bike to your height and check the accessories with you; if we ship it to you, it arrives fully serviced and ready to ride. You ride it for as long as you need.

FAQs about bike rental for the Camino de Santiago
How much does it cost to rent a bike for the Camino de Santiago?
The price depends on the model and duration: MTBs and gravel bikes start from around €19/day; e-bikes around €35/day. 7-14 day packs include automatic discounts. Get the exact price for your dates and route on our booking page.
Do I need to leave a deposit?
No. Tournride does not ask for a deposit or a credit-card hold. Payment is made in advance, according to the schedule set out in our terms of service.
What does Tournride Full Assistance (TFA) cover?
TFA covers any mechanical issue during your Camino: punctures, broken chain, e-bike electrical faults, etc. Call us during business hours and we’ll coordinate transport and repair at our cost. If a replacement bike is needed we send one out, as quickly as possible and depending on the circumstances. Until 21 June 2026 the TFA is free with every booking.
Where do you deliver the bikes along the Camino?
We deliver in any town along the Camino Francés (Saint-Jean, Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos, León, Astorga, Ponferrada, Sarria…), the Portuguese Camino (Lisbon, Porto, Tui), the Northern Camino and the English Way. If you are arriving from Madrid or Bilbao by train or plane, we also pick you up at the station or airport.
Can I change the pickup location after booking?
Yes, up to 7 days before pickup at no extra cost. After that it depends on availability but we do our best to accommodate changes.
Do the bikes come with a rack for panniers?
All bikes include a rear rack except the BH UltimateRC (its frame geometry does not allow it). If you do not have panniers we rent them out or recommend a model based on your trip length.
What if I’m new to road or MTB cycling?
The Camino Francés is accessible: 70% dirt tracks, 30% tarmac. If you have no technical experience we recommend the BH Expert Alu (a solid, stable MTB) or the BH AtomE Jet Pro (a comfortable urban e-bike).
