Electric Bike Rental for the Camino de Santiago

Yes — you can cycle the Camino de Santiago on an e-bike, and it is the most popular choice for pilgrims today. Tournride rents pedal-assist bikes for every Camino route: we deliver anywhere in Spain and Portugal with no deposit, you ride a comfortable 40–60 km a day with the motor taking the sting out of the climbs, and you drop the bike off in Santiago. Prices start from €33/day, and an electric bike earns your Compostela exactly like a muscular one — by riding the last 200 km into Santiago.

Why ride the Camino on an e-bike?

The Camino is not flat. The Camino Francés crosses two real mountain passes — Roncesvalles on day one and O Cebreiro near the end — and the Camino Primitivo climbs the demanding Hospitales route. On a pedal-assist e-bike those climbs become a pleasure instead of a wall, so you finish each stage with energy left to enjoy the village, the food and the stamps in your credential.

That is why the e-bike is our most rented bike. It is ideal for mixed-ability groups (so everyone rides together regardless of fitness), for riders who want to protect their knees, for anyone coming back to cycling after a break, and for cobbles, headwinds and long gravel days. If you are still weighing it up, read our honest comparison of an electric bike versus a traditional bike for the Camino.

Which e-bike should you choose?

Our 2026 e-bike fleet is built around reliable Bosch, Shimano and Yamaha mid-drive motors, with batteries from 500 to 750 Wh — comfortably enough for any Camino stage with assistance. All e-MTB models come with a rear rack fitted (the exception is the full-suspension Corratec). From entry-level to premium:

  • Yamaha CrossCore RC — our entry e-MTB and the easiest pick if you are unsure. Yamaha PW motor, 500 Wh battery. Rear rack fitted. From €33/day.
  • MMR Koen 00 — top-of-the-range e-MTB. Bosch Performance Line CX, 625 Wh, 12-speed. Rear rack fitted. From €40/day.
  • BH AtomE Jet Pro — robust e-MTB with a big 720 Wh battery and the powerful, silent Shimano EP6 motor (85 Nm). Rear rack fitted. From €46/day.
  • Yamaha Wabash RT — an electric gravel bike for confident riders who like a faster, road-and-track feel. Yamaha PW-S2 motor, 500 Wh. From €40/day.
  • Corratec e-Power RS160 — our premium, full-suspension e-bike: the most comfortable bike on the Camino. Bosch Performance Line CX, 750 Wh, RockShox suspension front and rear. Limited edition, sizes M and L, no rack (we advise on luggage transfer). From €55/day.

💡 And a little secret: that “from” price is actually our maximum. The more days — or the more bikes — you add to a booking, the lower the price per day (depending on the model and demand). In short: the more Camino you ride, the cheaper each day works out.

Not sure which size or model fits you? Tell us your height and dates when you book and we will recommend the right one. You can compare the whole fleet — muscular and electric — on our main Camino de Santiago bike rental page.

How e-bike rental works

It is the same simple, self-guided service as our muscular bikes, with a couple of e-bike specifics:

  • Delivery and collection on route. We deliver your e-bike to any point in Spain and Portugal and collect it in Santiago or wherever you finish — no deposit required.
  • Charger included. Every e-bike comes with its charger; you recharge overnight at your accommodation. A full charge easily covers a normal 40–60 km Camino stage, even in the higher assistance modes.
  • Tournride Full Assistance (optional). Mechanical support during business hours if anything goes wrong on the road. It is an optional add-on — and currently free until 21 June 2026.
  • Luggage transfer (optional). If you would rather ride light, an optional luggage service moves your suitcase to your final destination. Stage-to-stage transfers are handled by local partners (Jacotrans, Taxicamino, Transfertaxi).
  • Phone mount, not GPS. We rent a simple handlebar phone mount so you navigate with your own phone — no gadgets to learn.

E-bike Camino FAQ

Does an e-bike count for the Compostela?

Yes. An e-bike counts exactly like a muscular bike: you earn the Compostela by cycling the last 200 km into Santiago and getting your credential stamped at least twice a day. The only condition is to ride realistic stages — the Pilgrim’s Office can refuse the Compostela if you declare implausibly long daily distances. Normal Camino stages of 40–60 km a day are exactly what they expect.

Will the battery last a full stage?

Yes. Our e-bikes carry 500–750 Wh batteries, comfortably enough for a normal 40–60 km Camino stage with assistance. Real range depends on rider weight, wind and how much assistance you use, but you will not run out on a sensible stage.

Where do I recharge it?

You recharge overnight at your accommodation with the charger we include. By morning you are ready for the next stage.

Do I need to be fit to ride an e-bike Camino?

No special fitness is required — that is the point of the e-bike. The pedal assistance flattens the climbs, so riders of very different fitness levels can ride the same stages together. You still pedal and enjoy the exercise; the motor just removes the suffering on the hard parts. A tip: when planning your stages, think in hours in the saddle, not just kilometres — even with good padded shorts, too many hours on the saddle in one go can turn the ride frustrating. Better to plan days you enjoy than days you endure.

Can I mix e-bikes and muscular bikes in one group?

Absolutely, and it is common. Mixing e-bikes and muscular bikes lets a group of mixed fitness ride together comfortably. Just tell us the models and sizes for each rider when you book.
