Bike-friendly accommodation: why some are not recommended

When you book with Tournride, we deliver your rental bike to your accommodation and collect it at the end of your trip. For this to work smoothly, the accommodation needs to cooperate with our delivery and collection service. We call these places bike friendly.

If you see a note saying we don’t deliver or don’t pick up bikes at a given accommodation — marked as not recommended — this page explains why, and what you can do.

What makes an accommodation “bike friendly”

A bike-friendly accommodation lets us deliver and collect your bike without problems. In practice that means there is a safe place to keep the bike, someone to receive it from or hand it over to our courier, and easy access for delivery.

Why an accommodation may be “not recommended”

We mark an accommodation as not recommended when, because of its own policy or from previous experience:

  • There is no safe place to store the bike: risk of theft or damage.
  • It won’t receive or hand over the bike to our courier.
  • There is no staffed reception during working hours (for example, self check-in with a key box).
  • It charges an extra fee for keeping the bike.
  • The location is not accessible for our courier (an area without coverage or with very restricted access).
  • There were problems before with deliveries or collections at that address.

This is not about the quality of the accommodation, only about whether we can deliver and collect a bike there reliably.

You can still rent your bike

If your accommodation is marked as not recommended, you have options:

  • Change your accommodation, if your cancellation policy allows it, for one listed as bike friendly.
  • Use a Tournride delivery or collection point instead of your accommodation.
  • Contact us: tell us your case and we will look for the best solution.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still book if my accommodation is not recommended?

Not for that specific accommodation. You can continue your booking without choosing an accommodation yet (the “I don’t know where I will stay yet” option in the dropdown), but bear in mind that we will need to sort out the delivery as soon as possible. If your cancellation policy allows it, you can also change to an accommodation listed as bike friendly.

Can I choose an accommodation that is not on the list?

Yes. An accommodation being on the list only means we have delivered there before. If yours is not there, choose the “Can’t find your accommodation on the list? Suggest one!” option in the dropdown and we will review it.

Does “not recommended” mean the accommodation is bad?

No. It only refers to bike delivery and collection, not to the quality or comfort of the place.

Can an accommodation become bike friendly?

Yes. If an accommodation agrees to receive and store bikes, we are happy to add it. Ask them to contact us at partners@tournride.com.

Are you an accommodation and think you should not be listed as “not recommended”?

If you run an accommodation that appears as not bike friendly and you believe the classification is wrong — you have a safe place to store bikes, reception or staff who can receive them from and hand them over to our courier, and your location is accessible for delivery — we want to know. Every season we work with many pilgrims and travellers, and being listed as bike friendly helps you get more bookings.

Write to us at partners@tournride.com telling us how bike delivery and collection works at your accommodation (storage space, reception hours and contact details) and we will review your case to update your listing as soon as possible.
