BBC Travel talks about The Camino on its website and Facebook

May 23, 2011

Milky Way, as it travels under the lights of the galaxy to the Atlantic Ocean.  Some argue the path has always been spiritual, following purported Celtic mourning routes to the setting sun. The scallop shell has long been a symbol of both Galicia and the pilgrimage, acting as a sign at refuges and to show the way. Participation in the pilgrimage nearly doubled between 2009 and 2010, bringing tourist dollars into the region. Pilgrims carry a card or “credencial” which gets stamped at every town visited, proof of their pilgrimage. Pilgrims who complete the journey are blessed with a plenary indulgence, which apparently removes their sins. Pilgrims who have walked 100km to the Santiago de Compostela are awarded a certificate, or compostela.

Lonely Planet sell a new guide about Bike Tours

April 6, 2011

“Forget planes and cars: beginner’s guide to travelling by bike”, is the beggining of the article on Lonely Planet new guide about Bike Tour, written by Courtney Cervantes. “Ever thought that self-powered metal thing in your garage – aka your bike – could take you around the world? Because it can! You don’t have to be a world-class athlete to go from strolling through your neighborhood to pedalling the roads of China.

[...]

Luckily bike-travelling isn’t something that you’ll be figuring out on your own. There are tonnes of resources out there, so start researching! To get you going, here’s a guide to some things you need to consider:

  • How long do you want to go?
  • Where do you want to go?
  • What kind of shape are you in?
  • Hotels, hostels, or camping?
  • What should you bring?
  • How heavy a pack can you carry?

How many days of bike rental do people take?

March 16, 2011

Our software team have been improving some queries to our database, in order to obtain some useful data. Regarding the bike rental days (mean) for the St. James way, we obtained the following data:

Year 2008  -> 3.20

Year 2009  -> 3.58

Year 2010  -> 5.87

Year 2011  -> 7.33 (today data)

Analyzing this data, we can see that every year the number of bike rental days is larger, what means that every year, our customers make the “camino de Santiago” from farther places. Actually, the mean on 2010, indicates that our rental bikes have come from León to Santiago de Compostela. Also, the data for 2011 (until today) show, first, an increasing number of bike reservations, up to 30% compared to the past year (Xacobeo 2010), and that, added to the fact that Easter is placed a month later than the past year. All of this, together with the mean of bike rental days, that is, 7,33, what implies that (of course, and repeating again, this is a mean) our customers come from Burgos to Santiago de Compostela, more or less.

We only can say thank you for trust in us and in our St. James way bike rental service, where work the best team of professionals, such as in our garage of Monforte de Lemos, as in our shop-garage in Santiago de Compostela, as the people in the office at Ferrol.

Thank you so much.

New enhaced web interface, now with hotel bookings.

February 16, 2011

Yesterday we proceeded with a few changes in our site, that we hope you like them

Firstly, we’ve added a hotel booking section, where you can just book your hotels anywhere in Spain or even the entire World. All the process is under the booking.com engine control, so their guarantee is assured. This option was added since it’s been requested by our customers with a high demand, so now you can sort out all your holidays here.

Tournride has also a lot of projects running, and so, we’ve decided to add a new investors section, where you can check and request information about how and why to invest in our company. We offer a different investment opportunity, based on a sustainable and ecological business, in areas like the active tourism and the public services.

We’ve also correct some bugs on the links to make the navigation even easier, specially on the languages control.
